Captain Wes Marks has been licensed as an officer in the US Merchant Marine since 1993 and has been professionally operating boats of various sizes and duties since 1979. His background and experience will ensure that you have a safe, enjoyable, and unique experience aboard “Sable” – a 32 foot Deadrise built in Trappe Maryland.
Powered by a reliable diesel, her Chesapeake Bay heritage is evident in her design and construction methods.
A typical cruise aboard Sable will last 3 to 4 hours and will introduce our guests to the wonders of the Chesapeake Bay. After a quick tour of Deltaville Harbor, we head out into the waters of the Rappahannock River and Chesapeake Bay. We’ll cruise by the remains of 2 offshore lighthouses, stop at the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail interpretive buoy, and discuss the history of the area. As we cruise the bay and river we’ll visit oyster beds, pound nets, and fish havens; if you like we can also visit the Windmill Point marina. On our way back to Deltaville, we’ll pull a few crab pots and experience first hand the bounty of the sea. As we cull the catch, we’ll learn about the crabs, their life cycle, value to the region’s economy, preservation methods, and how we can keep the Bay a productive and balanced eco system.
