History speaks through Capt. Rick Kellam, who has spent most of his life – as a waterman, as a member of the Virginia State Marine Police, and most recently as a tour host for such clients as the Orvis company and The Nature Conservancy.
Kellam holds a Masters Captains license from the USCG and is a Master Diver and instructor of CPR and first aid. Kellam has organized Broadwater Bay Custom Ecotours to provide clients with a rich and complete experience of the history and ecology of the Barrier Island and the neighboring mainland. Each tour is designed to suit the interests and schedule of the individual or group and is indeed an eco-classroom in the marsh with photos and interpretation at every turn.
Kellam’s boat is a 24ft. open cockpit, shallow-draft vessel with a small cabin for weather protection. There is state-of-the-art navigation and safety equipment aboard, and personal facilities are available.
