Friends of the Rappahannock and our partners are excited to offer a great selection of ways to enjoy the Rappahannock River throughout the year. We can offer guided canoe, kayak and stand up paddle board trips in partnership with Virginia Outdoor Center, and also a number of tailored tours on our river steward boat.
Our captain and staff work everyday to protect and restore the Rappahannock River watershed and offer a unique perspective that includes history, science, economics, fisheries, agriculture, conservation, and fun! Let us show you how special the Rappahannock River is and all it has to offer.
Popular trip options include:
-Tours of Fones Cliffs to soar with one of the largest bald eagle populations on the east coast and to see where a historic skirmish took place when John Smith first ventured up the Rappahannock River- Departs from June Parker Marina in Tappahannock 3 hour duration.
-Tour an active oyster reef restoration project and multiple working waterfronts in Carter’s Creek, Urbanna Creek, and Robinson Creek. These tours have been blessed with dolphins surrounding the boat, friendly waves from watermen hauling in their catch, ospreys nesting all around, and some gorgeous areas to take a swim. Guests are offered the opportunity to install recycled oyster shell onto one of our reef projects to help with the restoration effort! There are also multiple riverfront restaurant options that offer excellent lunch and beverage selections! Can depart from multiple locations (Urbanna or Irvington) and duration can be tailored to fit any schedule.
-Take a guided tour via paddle craft or boat up one of the many historic creeks of the Rappahannock River. Cat Point Creek is one of many great examples. This creek is teeming with wildlife and borders the Rappahannock River Valley National Wildlife Refuge. Can depart from multiple locations and duration can be tailored to fit any schedule.
-Tour Belle Isle State Park and the Rappahannock River with the experts. FOR staff joins State Park Rangers for an incredible tour of interpretive visitor’s center facility, waterfront beaches, options for a short conservation hike and bird watching, and then a boat or paddle tour of the Rappahannock River and nearby creeks, and an option to tour the Morattico Waterfront Museum! Departs from Belle Isle State Park and duration can be tailored to fit any schedule.
