See picturesque Mathews County by water as the guest of Captain Trey Sowers aboard the “Helen Elizabeth”, an authentic 34’ Chesapeake Bay Deadrise. Captain Sowers is a (USCG) certified captain, fully licensed and insured to take up to 6 passengers at a time. Captain Sowers has partnered with the historic Inn at Tabbs Creek in Mathews to offer regularly scheduled weekend tours right from their private dock each weekend during the summer months. Picnic lunches and dinners are even available for purchase on site with prior arrangement.
Captain Sowers also owns and operates nearby Chapel Creek Oyster Company and offers private tours of the facility by appointment. Tours include all aspects of the aquaculture operation from start to finish, including the grow out of seed oysters, upwelling and barge systems, and cage aquaculture of the mature oysters in the Piankatank River. Captain Sowers even has extra boots and waders if you want to participate in the aquaculture operations and get some hands-on pictures of the entire family dressed out in watermen’s gear! Come and “spend the day with Captain Trey” and see historic Mathews County from a completely different perspective – out on our scenic rivers and creeks!
Looking for a place to stay? Be sure to ask about current specials and packages – many visitors choose to book a stay at the Inn and take the heritage tour as part of their ultimate relaxing weekend.
